Sometimes, a business or location requires a greater reliability from the internet connection that what a standard business connection can deliver.
The simplest step is to buy a business connection and hope that miraculously the infrastructure around your premises will deliver what you are paying a little bit extra for. Experience has shown that this does not usually work out over the long term.
Another, usually more expensive way, is to buy some kind of bespoke solution from a service provider. This is usually a low contention line, possibly fibre, or sometimes wireless, that provides a much greater level of reliability. Some of this reliability is due to the better equipment installed on your premises, where brand names like Cisco, Mikrotik or Ubiquiti and some comes from the fact that you are using a slightly different infrastructure than everyone else around you. However, in many situations, when there is a failure, you cannot recover from it using your own resources and help can be hours or even days away.
If your needs are for outbound connectivity only, a 4G/LTE (or more recently 5G) has the ability to keep you going. But what happens when your needs are for inbound communication (such as when you are hosting your own CRM or mail server)?
